If you are not using social media as a tool to help grow your business and connect with your customer base, you are missing out! It might feel daunting to figure out how to build a social media presence for your brand or business, but don’t fret — here are five tips to help you get started.
1. Create a Branded Look
Building a recognizable brand will help your online community quickly connect your content with your brand, business, or product. For starters, it’s imperative to maintain a unified brand image across all social media channels to help customers recognize and remember your brand. Sticking to a set of colors, fonts, and graphic styles will help create a cohesive appearance on your social media platforms, making it easy for your customers to remember you and your brand. You can achieve this by creating a template for your posts. Check out our Social Media Post Packs for complete post templates and captions. We also love Canva, a user-friendly graphic design tool that has some great pre-made templates. Once you select your fonts and colors, you can create branded content easily.
2. Determine a Monthly Advertising Budget
While organic reach on social media is great for your existing followers, paid advertising can help your brand reach a larger audience and drive more engagement to your social platforms and website, ultimately helping you find new leads for your business. Determine a monthly budget or find an expert to help you use your funds to the fullest. We recommend most companies start with $200 per month in pure ad spend and go up from there to see increased visibility.
3. Find Your Brand Voice
Your brand voice is the personality, verbiage, and tone you use when creating copy for your social media posts. Finding your brand voice depends on who you are as a brand or company. For example, some businesses can get away with being a bit cheeky and silly (have you seen Duolingo’s TikTok?) while others should keep things professional. No matter what you choose, be sure to use a consistent tone of voice on all your platforms. Doing this helps to establish a brand identity and builds trust with your audience.
4. Develop a Posting Schedule
How many times a week do you plan to post? Are there certain topics that you want to post about on specific days? Give your audience something to expect every week to keep them engaged. Consistency is key when it comes to building a loyal following on social media. Some great topic ideas are employee highlights, new products or services that your business offers, the history of your company, or even just highlighting an event happening in your local area. Don’t make every post about a sale. Your audience might feel like you’re talking at them instead of to them!
5. Interact with Your Audience
One of the most important aspects of building your social media presence is engaging with your audience. Respond to or like every comment on your content, share user-generated content on your profile, and follow back and engage with your target audience. Engaging with your community will help to build your community, increase your reach, and build brand loyalty.
